Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing

One of my favorite Chinese proverbs is, “When drinking the water, remember the source.”  As a daughter of Chinese immigrants, I find myself connected to both my Chinese heritage and my western upbringing.  This connection carries itself over to my artwork – I love taking traditional Chinese motifs and presenting them in a modern and western aesthetic.  Think Ming Tsai’s “East Meets West” show (which I absolutely love still to this day).  My artwork is a representation of me – a fusion of east and west.

I made a day trip to Richmond recently – the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts (VMFA) has a special exhibit right now called Forbidden City: Imperial Treasures from the Palace Museum, Beijing.  The exhibit will be there through January 11, 2015 and I highly recommend it!  There were some amazing and inspiring pieces of work on display.  General admission to the museum is free and the tickets to the special exhibit are $20 each for adults, $16 for seniors, and $10 for youth or individuals with student IDs.
